One thing that caught my attention while trying to follow TV7’s Ramadan soap opera “Sharaa el-Hobb” was that the actors do not seem to know that nowadays, cars come equipped with seat belts and that seat belts are there for a reason. In every scene where actors jump into a car, they start driving merrily without putting on their seat belts. Sometimes, there are even kids playing around in the car without a hint of paying attention to a seat belt. While this may be a minor detail for some, it is a reflection of the lack of awareness of basic safety rules and can only promote the notion that driving without these basic rules is acceptable. TV7’s mission should include an educational dimension besides providing entertainment.
