ImageSheikh Zayed, father of UAE, passed away today, November 2, 2004. Many who only hear negative stereotypes about the Muslim Gulf states, may not have an appreciation of what Sheikh Zayed has accomplished through his wisdom, generosity, vision and love for people. His accomplishments are nothing short of legendary; turning a vast expanse of desert territory into the ultra modern, economonically vibrant, tolerant and welcoming country we now know as the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Zayed worked hard for his country to the last day of his life. On November 2nd, the day he passed away, he nominated the first female minister to the cabinet in UAE's history; this is not a minor accomplishment considering that many neighboring countries do not even allow females to vote. His passing away is a real loss for all Muslims. May Allah (swt) bless his kind soul and accept him in Paradise during this blessed month of Ramadhan.
