As if the destruction of Iraq and the grounding of the US economy were not sufficient, US Presidential Nominee John McCain is promising more wars. There are many countries for McCain to choose from. At the top of his list appears to be Iran. It can also be Russia as apparent from his running mate Sarah Palin's comments during her interview with ABC News. It can even be Spain as can be deduced from McCain's interview where he either threatened to "stand up" to Spain or did not know who the prime minister of Spain was. See the videos below to get an appreciation of the appettite of McCain and his team for aggression and more wars.

US Gas Prices Hit $5 Mark PDF Print E-mail

Image Who would have thought gas prices in the US would climb to $5 a gallon? The cost of 1 gallon (3.7 liters) at $1.27 is still fresh in my memory about 10 years ago. Over the span of 10 years, that price is about 5 times over and there is no end in sight. Oil prices climbed from $21 a barrel about ten years ago to $137 just last week. That is a factor of about 7.  Thus, given these trends, gas prices in the US will probably catch up with levels in Europe.  That target is being increasingly used as an answer to those astonished by current price levels.  However, while Europe can take those prices because of an advanced mass transportation infrastructure, the US is no shape to handle such prices. In the US, a personal car is an absolute necessity and a 1-hour commute to work is common place. An efficient mass transportation system is far from being a reality. Some people are paying more for gas than for rent. Costs of goods and services are also increasing to keep up with the increased cost of shipping. Something is going to give!

Interesting Sharade of Lies PDF Print E-mail

The sharade of lies by the Bush administration is getting more interesting every day. Today, a CIA report came out giving a definitive conclusion that Iraq had scrapped its weapons programs in 1991 and never resumed them since. Weapons of mass destruction were the main reason Bush and his gang used to invade a sovereign nation. The credibility of this president has sunk to a dangerously low level and the US credibility has suffered as a result of this administration's actions. Lies and deceipt seem to run in the Bush family: we all remember when Bush the father also invaded Iraq regardless of whether  Saddam pulled out of Kuwait or not. The only difference is that Bush the father had more sense when he made sure he had more international backing and refrained from getting US troops stuck in a quagmire of urban warfare. Now that the catastrophic results of this president's adventure are impossible to ignore, we see interesting twist and spin coming from his administration: such as trying to find different excuses for the war than the ones used before the invasion; or that the weapons report actually reinforces the "wisdom" of going to war. Going after tyrants is very commendable and would have been quite welcome in the Arab world had it been done for the right reasons. However, going after a defeated tyrant whose days were numbered, causing immeasurable suffering in Iraq and in the US, while ignoring tyrants who are actively and openly amassing weapons of mass destruction, all of these are not indicative of a president who deserves a second term.

Help Is on the Way PDF Print E-mail

ImageDuring the first US presidential debate, Senator John F. Kerry did not have to do much to expose the failed presidency of George W. Bush. Facts are plentiful and the realities of domestic and international failures are hard to ignore. It is amazing that George W. Bush agreed to hold these debates when all he had to offer were one liners which he repeated over and over. What's more amazing is Senator Kerry's ability to keep his cool in the face of these one liners. All in all, I think America and the world are ready for a fresh start in the form of a new US president who can fix the havoc created by the Bush administration: a president who can stop the blood bath in Iraq and Afghanistan, who can keep America safe by setting the example in respect for human life, who will pay more attention to domestic problems and work on reducing the largest debt in US history which was created by the Bush administration. Just one month to go: Help is on the Way for the US and the world.
